Winning streak continues for Asia Pacific region in July

With a total return of 4.7 percent during the month, Asia Pacific real estate stocks extended their winning streak in July to six consecutive months of positive returns. The region has now returned 11.3 percent in 2014, slightly behind global real estate stocks with a 12.7 percent return, according to SNL Financial (with regional returns denominated back to US dollars and country returns in local currency). While trailing the global market, the momentum is trending toward the Asia Pacific region, with the region outperforming global real estate in four of the past five months. In general, the real estate asset class has been benefitting from a shift toward income alternatives and safe haven sectors due to continued geopolitical fears, while the Asia Pacific region has additionally benefitted lately from stabilising data coming out of China.
