Good Things to Come?

In the September issue of The Letter – Asia Pacific, I discussed the retail sector in China, with all its opportunities and traps. Now, I would like to bring to your attention China’s logistics sector. There are many companies that will provide you with data, such as price per square metre, supply, uptake, etc, but this is not what I would like to discuss.

What is interesting about the logistics sector is that it gives you an indication of how important factors in the economy such as external trade and domestic consumption may perform going forward. There are reasons to believe that if the logistics sector is active and attracting investors, while other markets, such as residential and office languish, an improvement in the overall state of the economy may be coming.
