A Watchful Eye: Influential Trends to Watch for in 2013

by Alex Eidlin

In writing this publisher’s note at the start of 2013, I would like to share with you some of the topics we at Institutional Real Estate, Inc consider important going forward, and that we will be following and keeping you updated on this year.

High on our list is the topic of capital formation and its flow into real estate markets in Asia as well as the rest of the world. Asian economies have been growing at a fast clip, and pension funds, insurance companies, trust banks and other institutional investor organisations have been accumulating capital with an increasing speed. Part of this capital has been being allocated to real estate in many Asian countries, such as South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and some other smaller economies. China joined this group in 2012 when it officially allowed its insurance companies to start investing in real estate.
