GIP Expands Airport Holdings with Edinburgh Buy

Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), backed by Credit Suisse and General Electric, has outbid a consortium led by J.P. Morgan Asset Management to acquire Edinburgh Airport for £807 million ($1.3 billion).

The GIP fund purchased the Scottish airport from BAA, which operates Heathrow Airport near London as well as a number of regional airports. Aviation analysts estimated a sales price for the Edinburgh Airport in the range of £500 million to £700 million ($810 million to $1.1 billion), making the winning bid considerably higher than expected, according to the Reuters report.
