Transurban Group is a toll road owner and operator with assets in Australia and North America. The company is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX: TCL) and has a market capitalization of about $7 billion. Shareholders include the Ontario Teachers Retirement System, the Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board and CP2. Institutional Investing in Infrastructure senior editor Drew Campbell spoke with Michael Kulper, president of North American operations, about Transurban’s first greenfield project outside of its home market of Australia — the Capital Beltway HOT Lanes in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, a nearly $2 billion public-private partnership between the Virginia Department of Transportation, Transurban and Fluor Corp.
