Sunstar Capital seeks $100m for new real estate fund

by Zoë Wolff

DivcoWest founder David Taran has partnered with former pension fund manager Mark Skeen to launch Sunstar Capital, a private equity real estate firm in California.

The cofounders have a long history in the real estate industry. After leaving DivcoWest in 2006, Taran founded Page Mill Properties. Skeen served as chairman for the San Jose Police and Fire Department Retirement Plan, which has a real estate portfolio of more than $200 million. Skeen was responsible for overseeing all investment activity for the pension fund.

The firm is currently marketing its first fund, which will primarily target office properties in technology-driven markets throughout the United States. The fund is seeking to raise $100 million, according to a spokesperson for the firm.
