Pennsylvania pension fund hires new CIO

by Zoë Wolff

The $25 billion Pennsylvania State Employees’ Retirement System has hired Bryan Lewis as its new CIO, according to a statement.

Lewis previously served as executive director of the $20 billion Illinois State Universities Retirement System, where he led fund administration and investment management.

“Like so many systems across the nation, SERS has been facing funding challenges while working to strike a balance between generating returns through all sorts of markets and being responsive to taxpayers’ desire for transparency. Bryan has expressed a clear understanding of these pressures and an enthusiasm to lead the fund through them,” said David Fillman, chairman of the retirement system’s board, in a statement.

Lewis will take over CIO duties on June 24, following the retirement of current CIO Thomas Brier. Brier has been with Pennsylvania SERS for 16 years.
