Ontario Teachers’ CIO will retire June 1

Neil Petroff, executive vice president and CIO of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, will retire effective June 1, the pension plan announced March 30.

Petroff has been with OTPP since 1993 and has been responsible for a variety of portfolios including international equity indices, fixed income, foreign exchange, commodities and alternative investments, according to OTPP’s website.

In 2008, Petroff was named senior vice president, and a year later he took on his current role as executive vice president and CIO of the C$141 billion ($112 billion) pension plan.

In a statement from OTPP, Petroff said he and Ron Mock, president and CEO of the pension plan, have been hard at work on a new investment strategy. He stated, “This is the ideal time for my retirement and for the next generation of investment professionals to move our new strategy forward.”
