May sees 280,000 new jobs

In May, the unemployment rate remained virtually unchanged at 5.5 percent for the fourth consecutive month, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. After a strong start to the year, with the lowest unemployment rate since 2008, it has held steady between 5.4 percent and 5.5 percent in February, March and April.
