J.P. Morgan buys Aviva’s Asian real estate platform

by Andrea Waitrovich

J.P. Morgan Asset Management has announced its acquisition of Aviva Investors’ Asia Pacific real estate platform, a direct real estate investment management platform operating in Australia, Japan and Singapore.

Through the acquisition, J.P. Morgan has taken on the investment management of existing Asia Pacific real estate funds and portfolios spanning core to value-added investments. Aviva Investors’ multi-manager property strategies in the region will not be affected by the transaction.

J.P. Morgan has been investing in Asian property since 2006 and manages $82 billion in property, infrastructure and maritime assets globally, as of Dec. 17, 2014.

The sale is in line with Aviva Investors’ strategy of simplifying and refocusing its business. It will not affect the fixed income and real estate multi-manager commitments in the region, which will continue to operate from the Singapore office.
