by Andrea Waitrovich

The $43.59 billion Teachers’ Retirement System of Illinois approved $400 million of investment into real estate during its regularly scheduled May meeting. The investments were completed during its fiscal year 2014.

TRS invested $300 million in Starwood Global Opportunity Fund X, managed by Starwood Capital Group. Starwood currently manages $135.9 million in TRS assets.

And TRS approved a $100 million commitment to Carlyle Realty Partners VII, managed by Carlyle Group. Carlyle currently administers $394.6 million in TRS assets.

The investments were made by the TRS’ diversity investment program with minority and women-owned investment brokers and money managers.

Under the diversity program, TRS will increase the assets committed to the pension fund’s emerging manager program from the current $500
