One of my nephews is getting married next year. For the most part, it’s a pretty standard wedding — family and friends will gather at the bride’s family farm for an outdoor summer wedding amid wildflowers and buzzing bees. However, what makes this wedding a candidate for “best wedding ever” is that everyone is being asked to arrive dressed as his or her favourite Greek god or goddess. I don’t know my goddesses as well as I should, so I’m going to be spending some time researching them, but for the bride and groom this isn’t a costume party. They don’t consider Apollo and Athena to be mythological figures — they consider them to be religious figures in the same way that others believe in Jesus and Yahweh and Allah.

This got me thinking about myth and reality. Where does reality end, and myth begin? Or the other way around — where does myth end, and reality take over?
