by Joanna Tano

Stuttgart, located in the south-west of Germany, an hour’s drive north of the Black Forest, is the capital of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. It has a population of 615,000, making it the sixth largest city in the country, rising to more than 5 million when considering the wider metropolitan area. The city is highly regarded as a place to live and work. It is ranked 30th in Mercer’s global “Liveability Rankings” (2010) and 11th for economic and social innovation. Stuttgart is sometimes referred to as the “cradle of the automobile” as Karl Benz invented the automobile here and Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Maybach all produced in the wider area.
