by Joanna Tano and Istvan Toth

Ankara is the capital city of Turkey and the country’s second largest city after Istanbul. It has a population of 4.9 million inhabitants of which 50 percent are under 30 years of age, according to TurkStat, the Turkish Statistical Office. The city is located in the Central Anatolia region and is an important commercial and industrial city, as well as the seat of the central government.

While Istanbul remains the gateway city for the majority of international capital coming into the country, attracting over a quarter of the country’s value-add, Ankara’s competitive edge lies with its established infrastructure for R&D, innovation and information technologies and the presence of a number of universities, all of which have helped Ankara to promote the “Collaboration of Academia and Technology”.
