Logistics: demand identified, supply delivered

by Loretta Clodfelter

The European logistics market is being driven by demand for large-size units, reports Jones Lang LaSalle, with take-up in Q2 2013 of 3.6 million square metres, a 23 percent increase over the quarter.

“Occupier activity in the leading logistics markets was driven by a number of large-scale transactions as supply chains respond to new customer and manufacturing patterns — with retail companies increasingly moving to multi-channel distribution models,” comments Paul Betts, director logistics and industrial EMEA at Jones Lang LaSalle.

He notes that the second quarter saw 12 deals that exceeded 50,000 square metres of floor space and more than 20 ranging between 20,000 and 50,000 square metres across a number of markets, led by the United Kingdom and Germany, but also in France, Poland and Russia.
