REITs find favour with investors

In Europe, investment in real estate securities has been on a steady incline, as real estate investors are attracted to the yields and liquidity of the REIT market, according to research from EPRA, the European Public Real Estate Association.

EPRA reports that academic research has shown that REITs, particularly European, deliver long-term returns on a par with directly-owned buildings. Although the tax incentives and liquidity of the global REIT market may have encouraged investors to commit to listed real estate funds, it remains unclear whether the volatility and the deviation of short-term returns from overall real estate returns really make it a more attractive investment option.
