The future of work: What will work be? Where will we do it? And what does that mean for real estate?

This article was not written by an algorithm. Such a disclaimer is not really necessary at this point — of course, this story was written by a human, not a computer. But the promise of artificial intelligence suggests such a disclaimer might be necessary in the future, as more tasks could be taken over by computers.

We are facing a moment when the jobs of the future could be dramatically different from the jobs of the past. And real estate — the place where work happens — may change dramatically, as well.

Writing about the future is tricky. Some of what we discuss in this story is speculative. Some of it may not come to pass, or not in the way outlined. And it is a real challenge to forecast out 10 to 20 years. But, as your correspondent was told while researching this article, “20 years is just two pro formas.”
