Fundraising predictions for year-end 2014

The trends during the past few years have definitely been ones that relate to an improving economy. In the past several years, investors and managers alike have been increasingly investing more capital into real estate. The real estate asset class has grown in popularity as investors seek yield in a low yield environment.

Funds with a planned fourth quarter closing have an aggregate fundraising target of approximately $26 billion. If all of the funds that are targeted to close before the end of 2014 do so, then we would see close to $33 billion in fund closings during the quarter — giving a year-end total of approximately $95 billion, marking the strongest year the market has seen since 2008, which had a year-end total of $134.9 billion in fundraising.
