Avik Mukhopadhyay named head of new J.P. Morgan direct investment platform

by Zoe Loza

J.P. Morgan Asset Management Global Real Assets announced April 1 the launch of Tactical Direct Investments, a dedicated cross–real assets direct investment group within GRA. Global Real Assets Tactical Direct Investments will be under the leadership of Avik Mukhopadhyay, who joined J.P. Morgan in July 2014.

This new platform will help institutional investors access single-asset direct investments, co-investments, separate accounts and club funds across real asset sectors and geographies, says Mukhopadhyay. TDI works with clients to add direct investments in real asset portfolios to complement their commingled fund holdings.

GRA currently manages approximately $17 billion of direct investments and co-investments on behalf of its clients, but, according to Mukhopadhyay, both existing clients and people with whom they have not yet worked have been seeking to do more with GRA.

“J.P. Morgan Global Real Assets has been executing direct investments on behalf of clients for four decades.TDI would not exist today if we did not have powerful local investment engines run by some of the most talented investment professionals,” Mukhopadhyay adds. “TDI will help deliver the whole of GRA and provide our clients with a consistent real asset investing experience globally.”

TDI will work with clients to understand where the best real asset relative value opportunities are globally and to execute those opportunities that are right for the clients’ individual portfolios.

“I am personally very excited about partnering with some of the most sophisticated investors globally and together investing in our best ideas,” states Mukhopadhyay.
